Before using and installing a new grinding wheel, comprehensive inspections and standardized installation operations are essential to ensure operational safety and prevent wheel breakage accidents. Firstly, complete pre-use inspection work strictly. Conduct a full visual inspection of the new grinding wheel to check for visible defects such as surface cracks, chipping, deformation, abrasion damage or uneven texture. Perform a tapping test gently with a soft tool: a clear and crisp ringing sound indicates the wheel is intact, while a dull or hoarse sound means internal cracks and damage, and such defective wheels must be discarded immediately. Besides, verify the basic parameters marked on the wheel, focusing on the rated maximum rotating speed, which must be higher than the working speed of the grinding machine to avoid over-speed operation. It is also necessary to check the wheel’s inner hole for smoothness and proper fit; unqualified hole size will cause unstable installation. Meanwhile, inspect all matching accessories, including flanges, gaskets and cushion pads, to ensure they are complete, flat and free of wear, deformation or dirt.
After passing the pre-inspection, follow standard safety installation specifications. Clean the grinder spindle and flange surfaces thoroughly before installation to remove dust, iron filings and impurities that may affect assembly stability. Install symmetrical and qualified gaskets on both sides of the grinding wheel to buffer pressure and prevent direct hard friction between the wheel and the flange. The flanges on both sides must be of the same size and tightly attached to the wheel without tilt or gap. Tighten the spindle nut with moderate force; excessive tightening will cause internal stress and crack the wheel, while insufficient tightening will lead to loose rotation and vibration. After installation, do not start formal grinding immediately. Conduct a no-load trial run for at least one minute to check for abnormal vibration, noise or shaking. Only when the wheel runs stably without any abnormal conditions can it be put into formal processing. In addition, ensure the installation position is stable, the safety guard of the grinder is installed in place, and all safety protection measures are complete before operation.
